Strategic planning in England is at a pivotal moment. With Government now consulting on the proposed geographies for Spatial Development Strategies (SDSs), authorities across the country are beginning to move decisively towards preparation.

At Prior + Partners, we are already supporting places as they shape their long-term strategic spatial direction, helping to establish the right foundations, evidence, governance and ambition. Central to this approach are our no-obligation Place Futures workshops: structured, half-day sessions designed to help authorities explore long-term vision, identify shared priorities and build early momentum.

Last week, we also reconvened the Strategic Planning Group (SPG) for its first session of 2026, bringing together colleagues from across the sector, including MHCLG, PINS, NISTA and local government partners.  Established in 2024, the SPG continues to play an important role in shaping the SDS system, sharing insight and supporting authorities as preparatory work accelerates.

We are also pleased to announce Prior + Partners’ collaboration with the Strategic Planning Partnership (SPP), a relationship designed to give authorities access to blended expertise, capacity and delivery models to progress SDSs with confidence.

Further detail on Prior + Partners’ strategic planning offer, including the Place Futures workshops and how to register for these, is available in our newly refreshed Strategic Planning brochure, as below, and which can be downloaded here.
