Michèle-Catherine Diab

Senior Urban Designer

The modern world often seems geared towards specialisation. Finding my place in it as a multi-passionate individual wasn’t always straightforward: I wanted to read, write, and draw. I trained as an architect, but it was in urban design that these interests found their meeting point.

Urban design is, at heart, a convergence of disciplines. My interests in literature and psychology help me shape places with meaning; spaces that are not only functional but genuinely engaging and alive. My drawing and painting practice informs how I communicate ideas, bringing clarity and narrative to every stage of a project.

I grew up and obtained my master’s degrees in architecture and in urban design in Beirut, a city of layered histories and constant transformation. Living and studying there shaped my understanding of resistance, identity, and the delicate balance between built and natural environments: a place where the sea is close yet often hidden behind concrete.

Between my studies, I also had the chance to train in Tokyo, then later moved to London to study the built environment at a larger scale, completing an MSc in Building and Urban Design in Development at the Bartlett. This broadened my perspective on the social and economic forces that shape cities.

Since then, I’ve worked across projects in the UK and the Middle East, from early-stage bids to detailed masterplans, including major infrastructure projects. My polyvalent background allows me to approach projects with curiosity and flexibility, moving between analysis and imagination to context-driven design responses.
