This week, the London Borough of Newham’s Planning Committee unanimously approved the hybrid planning application for the revised Silvertown masterplan.
The decision paves the way for the delivery of more than 7,000 new homes and the transformation of this derelict site into a vibrant new dockside neighbourhood for east London.
Working on behalf of Lendlease, the Greater London Authority, Homes England, the Royal Docks Team and the London Borough of Newham, Prior + Partners has led the masterplan since 2018, helping to shape Silvertown as a well-connected, inclusive district. As one of the practice’s founding projects, and among London’s most ambitious regeneration opportunities, this approval marks an important milestone for our team and collaborators, including DP9, Pinsent Masons, Quod, AECOM and Arup.
As Silvertown takes shape, it will bring forward a new town centre, around 1,800 much-needed affordable homes, generous new public spaces equivalent to six football pitches, activation of the dock edge and the restoration of two important east London heritage assets. The masterplan also advances proposals for a new pedestrian and cycle bridge, improving connections across the docks and supporting the creation of a more accessible district for London.
With the masterplan now approved, Prior + Partners will be continuing our work at Silvertown, with Reserved Matters Applications for individual plots.
