JoJo Dorrington Ward

Urban Designer

My journey into urban design and planning has not been a direct one. I’ve always followed my core interests geography and design, and my desire to make a positive impact no matter the scale of the project or work. This has given me a multi-disciplinary background spanning geography, GIS, sustainable furniture, urban design and planning.

This diverse set of experiences allows me to appreciate urban design and planning in the context of wider geographical and spatial processes – including the interplay between the built and natural environments, how human behaviour affects these environments, and how we can shape these environments to work together in harmony.

It is exciting to work for a practice that utilises GIS, as it has allowed me to tap into my dormant GIS skills to visualise and analyse datasets rapidly, to support design and decision-making across urban design and planning projects.

Working in such a complex and ever changing field inspires and challenges me daily. It allows me to engage in and unpack some of the complexities around our environment, health, politics, economics and community, and carefully balance them to create quality places where people can live happy and fulfilled lives.
