Planning Positively for the Future
Shaping a New Era of Strategic Planning in England
In November 2024, Prior + Partners, in collaboration with Catriona Riddell, convened the Strategic Planning Group (SPG) to explore the future of strategic planning and its role in delivering and shaping key strategic priorities in England.
Marking the culmination of an intense 6-month period of collaboration, the SPG has now published the outcome of this work by way of its highly anticipated report, ‘Planning Positively for the Future’.
The report sets out clear recommendations which provide a comprehensive blueprint for embedding Spatial Development Strategies at the heart of a reformed, planled system.
These recommendations have been shaped through six expert-led workshops and extensive engagement with a wide range of stakeholders including representatives from local government.
As part of the report, practical next steps are outlined to support the transition of Spatial Development Strategies into the new planning system.
