Eddington, North West Cambridge

Prior + Partners has been retained by the University of Cambridge for Masterplan Oversight & Design Quality Guardianship at Eddington, the North West Cambridge Development. This important client advisory appointment continues Jonathan Rose’s role as Design Principal for the Masterplan, since the project started in 2009.

Eddington is a major new urban extension to the City of Cambridge. Representing the most significant plans for expansion in the University’s 800 year history, the Eddington masterplan includes a mixed-use urban development of 3,000 homes including 50% affordable homes for University & College key workers alongside homes for sale. The project also includes 1 million sq ft for University learning and teaching, Industry Partner research, Graduate Student Colleges and extensive new community facilities, open to all. A 3FE teacher training Primary School was the first new building to be opened in 2017.

With Phase 1 soon to be completed, the new urban centre at Eddington achieves the highest standards of sustainability, including new landscapes and public realm extending the City of Cambridge into a new University-orientated urban district to the northwest of the city centre. Last year, Eddington achieved an unprecedented 3No RIBA National Awards, including for the Masterplan, recognising the value and importance of this extraordinary project.
